Article 68. Setting water intake limits
Water Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan · Date: 30.07.2025 · In force
Water intake limits are set taking into account:
the forecast of the water level of the water sources in the next hydrological year;
the priority of the types of water use (sectors of the economy);
the forecast volume of the allocated water intake quota.
Water intake limits for drinking and domestic, as well as therapeutic needs, cannot be less than the allocated water intake quota. Water intake limits are set at an equal percentage with respect to the water intake quotas for other water users in the relevant hydrographic zone.
Water intake limits by water sources, territories, and sectors of the economy are set by:
the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan — twice a year, for the growing season until March 20 (April 1 — September 30) and for the autumn-winter period until September 20 (October 1 — March 30) — to the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the basin administrations of irrigation systems, the administrations of main canals (systems) of inter-regional and transboundary significance, and to separate enterprises and organizations using objects of energy, drinking, and domestic water supply;
the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the basin administrations of irrigation systems — twice a year, for the growing season until March 25 and for the autumn-winter period until September 25 — to the administrations of irrigation systems, water supply organizations, as well as to other water users of particular importance;
the Councils of Peopleʼs Deputies of districts (cities) — for the growing season until March 28 and for the autumn-winter period until September 28 — to water users and bodies of citizensʼ self-government (for irrigating personal household land plots), as well as to other water users.
The water intake limit for underground water is specified in the permits for special water use and is set for the duration of the permitʼs validity during its issuance.
Corrections may be made to the water intake limits in cases where the water level of the water sources decreases or increases.
Within a two-month period after the end of the established period of water use, the final water intake limits for the past period are approved by the specially authorized bodies, taking into account the actual water level of the sources.
