Article 132. Sanitary protection zones of drinking and domestic water supply sources
Water Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan · Date: 30.07.2025 · In force
For the purpose of ensuring the sanitary-epidemiological reliability of all used, designed, and reconstructed drinking and domestic water supply systems, sanitary protection zones and sanitary-protective areas are established. Sanitary protection zones and sanitary-protective areas are established and separated around objects of drinking and domestic water supply systems, and sanitary protection zones are established around sources of mineral waters and other therapeutic facilities.
The sanitary protection zone of the water intake point of surface and underground drinking and domestic water supply sources consists of the following three zones:
the first zone — of a strict regime;
the second and third zones — of a regime with restricted economic activity.
The boundary of the second zone of the sanitary protection zone of an underground drinking and domestic water supply source is established taking into account the characteristics of the aquifer of the rock and the bacteriological contamination of the water from the water intake point, depending on the climatic conditions of the area and the protection of the underground waters.
The boundaries of the second and third zones of the sanitary protection zone are determined taking into account the chemical and technogenic contamination of the water.
In the infiltration supply of the water-bearing layer, the second and third zones of the sanitary protection zone of the underground source must be adopted in accordance with the boundaries of the second and third zones of the surface water supply source.
The sanitary protection zone of the structures of a drinking and domestic water supply system (pumping stations, water treatment stations, tanks) must consist of the boundaries of the first zone and the sanitary-protective area around it (protected zone).
The width of the sanitary protection zone of drinking and domestic water supply sources is determined in accordance with Article 126 of this Code.
Sanitary-protective areas are established along drinking and domestic water supply systems, the width of which starts from the extreme water pipes.
In a built-up area, a reduction in the above-mentioned sizes of the widths of the zones is allowed in agreement with the sanitary-epidemiology control, and ecology, environmental protection and climate change bodies.
