Article 125. Water protection zones, coastal areas, sanitary protection zones, and sanitary-protective areas of water objects
Water Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan · Date: 30.07.2025 · In force
Water protection zones and coastal areas of water objects are established for the purpose of preventing and eliminating the contamination, pollution, depletion, and silting of water objects with products of soil erosion, as well as creating favorable conditions for maintaining a favorable water regime, use, and repair-restoration work. Sanitary protection zones of water objects are established for the purpose of protecting the waters used for the drinking, domestic, and therapeutic-health needs of the population.
A special regime for economic activity is established in the water protection zones, coastal areas, and sanitary protection zones of water objects, based on the designated purpose, location, and technical indicators of the water objects.
Water protection zones, coastal areas, and sanitary protection zones of water objects are established on the basis of relevant projects upon the proposals of the bodies of ecology, environmental protection and climate change, mining and geology bodies, as well as water user organizations.
Projects for establishing water protection zones, and for separating coastal areas from them, as well as for establishing sanitary protection zones and for separating sanitary-protective areas from them (hereinafter referred to as projects):
for natural water objects — are developed separately for each such water object;
for water management objects — as part of construction, reconstruction, repair, and restoration projects or separately;
for sanitary protection zones of drinking, domestic, and therapeutic-health water sources of the population — are developed by the bodies of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Wellbeing and Public Health.
The following are the customers for the development of projects:
for natural surface water objects — the water management bodies, as well as the bodies of ecology, environmental protection and climate change, respectively;
for underground water objects — the mining and geology bodies;
when developed as part of construction, reconstruction, repair, and restoration projects for water management objects — the specialized client organizations of these projects;
when developed separately for water management objects — the organizations that use these objects.
