Article 173. Purpose of the guardianship and trusteeship

Guardianship shall be established over orphans and children left without parental care, who have not attained the age of fourteen, as well as citizens who have been recognized by a court as legally incapable, for the purpose of their maintenance, upbringing and education, protection of their property and personal non-property rights and legitimate interests.

Trusteeship shall be established over orphans and children left without parental care, at the age of fourteen to eighteen years, as well as citizens, restricted by the court of legal capacity, for the purpose of their maintenance, upbringing and education, protection of their property and personal non-property rights and legitimate interests. Guardianship over adult, legally capable citizens, who cannot independently exercise their rights and perform their duties for health reasons may be established at the request of these persons.
