Article 127. Water protection zones and coastal areas of reservoirs and other water basins
Water Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan · Date: 30.07.2025 · In force
Water protection zones of reservoirs and other water basins are established along their entire perimeter, and coastal areas are separated within them. The water protection zones of reservoirs and other water basins include the following:
zones where the banks are forecasted to be eroded (slumped) within 50 years (a zone with restricted new construction);
erosion-active zones, which include lowlands, ravines, streams, coastal slopes, and eroded lands with a slope greater than 5 degrees, and moving land plots that are directly adjacent to reservoirs and other water basins;
zones that are temporarily flooded when the water level of reservoirs and other water basins rises to its maximum;
permanently flooded zones;
protective tree plantations on the banks of reservoirs and other water basins.
The boundaries of the water protection zone are established taking into account the specific characteristics of the location and are combined with natural and artificial boundaries and barriers that partially retain and redistribute surface waters flowing down from the elevated territories, river valley edges, streams, road and transport networks, and other engineering structures.
The inner boundary of the water protection zone of reservoirs is established from the water level line when the water rises to its normal level, and for other water basins -from the water level line of the average multi-year level.
The water level line is understood as the line where the water surface meets the channel (bank) of the water object.
The inner boundary of the water protection zone and the coastal area of the dams, water intake and water discharge, and other structures of reservoirs is established from their extreme contours (boundaries).
The width of the water protection zones and coastal areas of water objects is determined in accordance with Article 126 of this Code.
In the development of projects for establishing water protection zones and coastal areas of reservoirs and other water basins, the upper limit of the width of the water protection zones and coastal areas may be specified, taking into account the full study of the actual conditions on the ground.
In this case, a reduction in the lower limit of the width of the water protection zones and coastal areas is not allowed.
