Article 238. Establishment of the content of the rules of family law of a foreign State

In applying the rules of family law of a foreign State, the court or the civil registry authorities and other bodies shall establish the content of these rules in accordance with their official interpretation and application practice in the relevant foreign State.

In order to establish the content of the rules of family law of a foreign State, the court, the civil registry authorities, and other bodies may request the assistance and explanations of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan and other competent bodies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in accordance with the established procedure, or engage experts.

Interested parties shall be entitled to submit documents confirming the content of the rules of family law of a foreign State to which they refer in support of their claims or objections and otherwise assist the court and the civil registry authorities or other bodies in ascertaining the content of the rules of family law of a foreign State.

If, despite the measures taken in accordance with this Article, the content of the rules of family law of a foreign State is not established, the legislation of Uzbekistan shall apply.
