Article 223. Procedure for registration of death

Registration of death is carried out by the civil registration authority, regardless of the place of registration at the place of permanent residence or temporary stay of the deceased.

Registration of death by a court decision on declaring a citizen deceased is carried out by the civil registry office specified in this court decision. If the civil registration authority is not specified in the court decision, death registration is carried out in accordance with the procedure provided for in part one of this article.

Deaths of children born and deceased in the first week of life shall be registered by the civil registry office at the location of the medical facility.

A statement of death shall be made on the day of the death or no later than three days from the moment the deceased is found.

It shall be prohibited to perform a burial without registering the death with the civil registry authorities.
